Cookie Policy
Last updated: 7 May 2026
1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device when you visit it. Cookies are widely used to make websites work, to make them work more efficiently, and to provide information to the site owners. Similar technologies — such as localStorage, sessionStorage, and pixel tags — are covered by this policy where they are used for similar purposes.
2. Legal basis
Under the Norwegian Electronic Communications Act (Ekomloven § 2-7b) and the GDPR, we may store cookies on your device only if they are strictly necessary for the operation of the Service. For all other cookies we ask for your consent. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the controls described in section 6.
3. Cookies we use on the Sam dashboard
The authenticated dashboard at viasam.app uses only the cookies strictly necessary to run the Service:
| Cookie | Purpose | Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| sam_session | Maintains your authenticated session. | Strictly necessary | Session / 120 min idle |
| XSRF-TOKEN | Cross-site request forgery protection. | Strictly necessary | Session |
| cf_clearance / __cf_bm | Cloudflare bot protection (Turnstile) on login and registration. | Strictly necessary | 30 minutes |
| remember_web_* | Optional "remember me" token, set only if you tick the box on login. | Functional | 5 years |
We do not run advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics on the dashboard.
4. The Sam chat widget on customer websites
The Sam chat widget that you embed on your own website does not set cookies by default. To preserve a conversation across page loads, the widget uses localStorage on the visitor's browser to store:
- An anonymous conversation identifier (UUID) — no personal data
- The last open/closed state of the widget
- The visitor's chosen language, if applicable
This data stays on the visitor's device and is not used for cross-site tracking. You, as the website operator, are responsible for disclosing the use of this widget in your own cookie banner if your jurisdiction requires it.
5. Third-party cookies
Some pages of the Service load resources from third parties, which may set their own cookies:
6. Managing your cookies
You can control cookies in the following ways:
- Browser settings. All major browsers let you block, delete, or be notified about cookies. Consult your browser's help pages for instructions.
- Strictly-necessary cookies. These cannot be disabled, because the Service cannot function without them. If you block them, you will not be able to log in.
- "Remember me". Don't tick the box on the login form, or sign out, to remove the long-lived authentication cookie.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The current version is always available at viasam.app/cookies. Material changes will be communicated by email or in-app notification.
